Henrikh Mkhitaryan Joined Manchester United, Confirms Borussia Dortmund

Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund have confirmed that Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United have completed the signing of Armenian attacking midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan in adeal which is believed to be in region of £26m.

After Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Eric Bailly, Henrikh Mkhitaryan becomes the third major summer signing under new Manchester United coach Jose Mourinho. The exact details of the Manchester United deal are yet to be disclosed.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan had one year left on his contract at Borussia Dortmund and he had made it clear via his agent Mino Raiola that he had no intentions to sign a new contract with the German side and was keen on making a switch to Old Trafford this summer.

The 27-year-old attacking midfielder had joined Dortmund in a €25m offer back in the year 2013 after establishing his class at Shakhtar Donetsk.

Mkhitaryan had an incredible last season at Dortmund with 18 goals and 20 assists to his name in all competitions. His playmaking abilities coupled with Aubameyang’s pace and Reu’s ball clinical finishes in cohesion, contributed in making Dortmund a lethal attack in the last Bundesliga season. Dortmund finished 2nd on the league table, just 10 points behind the champions Bayern Munich.

Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke stated: “This transfer was for us on the basis of an entirely new starting situation a difficult balancing advance: Manchester has made us a tremendous value offer. Had we knocked it back, the player would have left for free in 2017. And we would only have postponed the personnel issue by one year.”

The Armenian midfielder has the tactical ability to play in almost all midfield positions but he was most efficient as a right winger for Dortmund in the last Bundesliga season.

Playing in the right wing position Mkhitaryan scored 11 goals last Bundesliga season and had 15 assists to his name. The 27-year-old attacking midfielder created 78 chances and completed 922 passes last season with a pass accuracy rate of 75%.
