Just A Gift For My 36th Birthday: Samuel Eto’o Clears Air About Amkar Shirt

Published on:

Barcelona and Chelsea legend Samuel Eto’o has rubbished all speculations that linked him with a move to the Russian Premier League.

Reports had earlier claimed that Eto’o was set to return to the Russian Premier League after the former Barcelona striker was snapped holding a Amkar jersey with his name and the number 36 printed on it.

Samuel Eto’o, who currently plays as a striker for the Turkish side Antalyaspor cleared the air and insisted that the jersey was just a gift from the club on his 36th birthday.

The photo showed Eto’o standing between Amkar coach Gadzhi Gadzhiyev, under whom the former Chelsea man had played at the Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala from 2011 to 2013 and executive director Denis Maslov.

The caption of the photo read: “Today [Thursday]. Belek, Turkey. More details later.”

The former Inter, Barcelona and Chelsea man, who has netted six goals in 15 Turkish Super League appearances this season, accentuated that the jersey was just a gift from the Russian club.

A post on Instagram read: “This is just a gift for my 36th birthday in March.”

After the image with Eto’o holding the jersey was posted, Amkar general director Igor Rezvukhin had said: “Eto’o is our friend, don’t try to find something more in this case.”

“Our coach knows Samuel so they decided to take a photo. Is Eto’o coming to Amkar? Of course not. In the future? It is sport, it is football, so who knows?”
