Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho said Romelu Lukaku needs a new pair of boots after his drastic loss of form showed no sign of ending during his side’s 4-2 Premier League victory at Watford on Tuesday.
After a stunning start to his Old Trafford, scoring 11 in his first ten matches for the Red Devils, the Belgian appears to have lost his touch with just one goal in his last 11 matches.
Lukaku wore black boots against Watford on Tuesday night, with photographs seemingly showing that the Belgian had coloured in the white Nike tick with a marker.
Jose Mourinho joked that the reason Lukaku cannot score is because the Manchester United striker is not currently contracted to any brand for his boots.
Mourinho said: ‘At this moment he doesn’t have a contract with any brand. That’s why he’s playing with black boots.
‘He finished his deal and now he is waiting for the right offer and he is playing in black boots.
‘I think he needs a brand to give him the right boots and to pay him the right money so he goes back to goals.”
Manchester United fans would be hoping the Belgian forward finds a new sponsor for his boots quickly as United need their frontman to be back amongst the goals if they have to challenge Manchester City for the Premier League title.
