LAST-DITCH

Published on:

Not only is the Ligue 1 chase dwindling for the capital city club, but a top-two result is not assured. Another period of inadequacy given PSG’s expectations has resulted in the club’s exit from the Champions League and a significant loss of territory on Lille. Heading into the final game of the season at Brest with the title defence out of their hands, PSG’s destiny is in the hands of the league leaders Lille, to whom they trail by one point.

PSG will be buoyant heading into this match after winning the French Cup on Thursday, defeating Monaco 2-0. The only thing PSG can control now is not losing points and not squandering any chances to win the title.

Whereas for Brest, They have slipped down the ladder as a result of a string of disappointing results. Their three-game winless record puts them in 16th position, only a point ahead of Nantes in the relegation play-offs, who have played considerably better recently than Brest.

The home side will hope to defend the Stade Francis-Le Ble, and even if they lose, they would hope that Nantes lose their fixture as well.

TEAM NEWS

Due to injury, Presnel Kimpembe, Marco Veratti, and Layvin Kurzava will miss the match against Brest. PSG’s long-term absentee Juan Bernat remains ruled out.

PSG Probable Lineup: Navas; Florenzi, Marquinhos, Kehrer, Diallo; Paredes, Gueye, Di Maria; Neymar, Mbappe, Icardi

Following their draw with Montpellier last week, Brest have no fresh injury concerns. Due to injuries, Christophe Herelle, Romain Philippoteaux, and Sebastien Cibois will all miss the game on Sunday. Paul Lasne remains their long term injury.

Brest Probable Lineup: Larsonneur; Faussurier; Chardonnet; Kevin Duverne; Perraud; Faivre; Magnetti; Belkebla; Honorat; Charbonnier; Mounie

GAME CHANGERS

The top names in PSG’s skilled workforce are without a doubt Neymar and Kylian Mbappe. Mbappe has been the showman for PSG the whole campaign. With 26 goals this season, the Frenchman is poised to be named the top scorer in the French first division for a third year running.

Mbappe is a one-of-a-kind combination of technical and physical attributes. His shift of rhythm, even while static, and the quickness of his feet are unparalleled. His incredible quickness and finishing ability will be game changers for the Parisiens.

22 years old. Romain Faivre has been a shining light in Brest’s otherwise disappointing season. He has been the standout performer for Olivier Dall’Oglio’s team. The French midfielder is at ease on the ball and fast in possession.

At such a young age, his outstanding vision, line-breaking passes, and confidence may be game changers for the Stade Francis-Le Ble side.

PREDICTIONS

Both sides have a lot on the line. Paris Saint-Germain will be attempting to win their eighth Ligue 1 title in nine years to equal the joint record of ten titles held by Saint-Etienne and Marseille. While Brest will do everything possible to avoid the relegation play-offs. FootTheBall predicts a 3-0 win for The Parisiens.
