HORNETS BUZZING

Published on:

Watford have secured promotion back into the Premier League at their first time of asking after securing a 1-0 win at Millwall on Saturday afternoon. The Hornets are confirmed of finishing at least second with Brentford 10 points behind in third with just three matches left to play. An eleventh minute Ismaila Sarr penalty was enough to secure the three points and with it, promotion.

STRONG FINISH

Xisco Munoz’s side have been right in the promotion conversation from the start of The Championship but it is the past few weeks where they have really come alive. Watford have lost just once in their last 11 matches in the league which has seen them run away from the chasing pack clustered in the playoff positions.

Watford were relegated from the Premier League at the end of the 2019/20 season having finished it second from bottom. They managed to retain most of their core players from the top flight including hot prospect and today’s matchwinner Sarr.

YO-YO CLUBS

The only team below Watford in 2019/20 season were Norwich City who secured promotion as well a few days ago. Norwich are all but confirmed to emerge as champions having a five point gap over the Hornets and not much football left to be played. The third team to be relegated with them, Bournemouth, have a shot at promotion as well via the playoff route.

Watford’s stay in the Premier League was characterised by a perpetually changing dugout, maverick players like Sarr and Gerard Deulofeu, and their charismatic captain Troy Deeney. It remains to be seen how many of their promotion winning squad will be retained as they aim to become a top flight main stay rather than a yo-yo club.

The Hornets have played some cracking football this season and have been among the most consistent sides in the league. They truly deserve promotion and all we can say is Kudos.
