Rooney Remain England CaptainManchester United and England captain Wayne Rooney has confirmed that he will retire from international football after the 2018 World Cup finals.

The Man Utd legend made his England debut as 17-year-old youth prospect in a friendly match against Australia. He has played a pivotal role in the Three Lions set up since joining the squad in 2003.

Wayne Rooney would turn 32 during England’s next World Cup 2018 Campaign in Russia, and the skipper admitted that it would be his last chance to win the tile for England.

“Russia will be my last opportunity to do anything with England. Hopefully I can end my time with England on a high,” said Rooney during a press conference on Tuesday.

“I said before the Euros I enjoyed playing in this team, and that’s the case still. There were some questions about whether I should stop playing, but I am looking forward to getting back on the pitch.”

The England captain advised his fellow teammates to get over with the humiliating 2-1 defeat against minnows Iceland that knocked them out of the Euro 2016 Championships. He admitted that it is difficult to forget the shock defeat but at the same time he insisted that he is excited about being a part of Sam Allardyce’s new set up.

Wayne Rooney To Retire after 2018 World Cup“We have to (move on). You can’t just forget it (Euro 2016) but it’s a new era for us. A new manager,” said Rooney.

“I’m looking forward to this new regime. I’m excited by the players involved at the moment and, although there have been questions about my future, I said straight after the Euros that I wanted to still be involved.”

“When Sam got the job I made that clear to him and here we are.”
