Barcelona bosses are desperate to tie down their most prized asset to a new deal but the Argentine is yet to pen the fresh terms.

Earlier, it was announced during the summer that Messi had agreed terms on a new deal with Barcelona that would keep him at the Catalan club until 2021.

But in reality the contract has not yet been made official and reports claim that Messi is yet to put pen to paper on a new deal with Barcelona.

Messi will be a free agent at the end of the season.

Messi’s current deal ends next summer, meaning he could discuss a free transfer to another club as early as January.

Manchester City bosses are ready to pay £300m to land Lionel Messi at the Etihad, only if the Argentine magician refuses to put pen to paper on a new deal at Barcelona, according to reports.

Sources close to the Manchester club have told FootTheBall that the club are willing to offer Messi a £40million signing-on bonus and want the Argentine to put pen to paper on a five-year deal worth over £500,000 per week.

The Barcelona bosses are desperate to tie down Messi following Neymar’s world-record £198m switch to Paris Saint-Germain.

However recent reports claim that Messi is not eyeing to leave the La Liga club as his wife is in no mood to move their family to England.

And now Suarez is adamant that Messi will stay at Barcelona and will sign ‘a contract for life’ with the Catalan club.

When asked whether Messi will remain at Barcelona until he hangs his boots, Suarez told Mundo Deportivo: “I would love to.

“For what Leo is, for what he has meant for the club and for the admiration I have for him.

“Hopefully soon there will be good news.”

Messi has scored 523 goals in 600 matches for Barcelona – guiding the club to La Liga titles and four Champions Leagues.

And while talking about his stats, Suarez told Mundo Deportivo: “The numbers, the moments… everything speaks for itself of what he is and what he means (to the club).

“He is the best player in history for both the club and the world.

“For me, it is a privilege to have it as a teammate.

“Today we have a very good relationship both on and off the field.

“If you do not get along well outside of football it’s hard to get along inside.”
