The Eastern Conference side had a season to forget, finishing bottom of the table, but are hopeful of convincing the veteran German to join them.

Chicago Fire boss Veljko Paunovic met with Bastian Schweinsteiger earlier this month in Manchester, and has since been confident of striking a deal with the former German captain.Bastian Schweinsteiger

The 32-year-old was signed by former Red Devils boss Louis Van Gaal last season, but failed to make an impact and was ousted by an injury – making a return just before the EURO 2016, after which he announced retirement from international football.

However, things went south for the Bastian after the arrival of Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford as he was frozen out of the first-team.

The former German international has not played a single game for United’s first-team this season.

Although he has said that he is ready to get back to action if Mourinho wants him to, adding that he is hopeful of getting a chance to prove himself.

Although Mourinho re-instated Schweinsteiger to the first-team, there is no sign that the former Bayern star will get game time.
