PFA Player Of The Year Award Nominees Announced – Kante Leads The Race – And One Shock Omission

Published on:

Chelsea superstars N’Golo Kante and Eden Hazard lead the six-man group, who are nominated for winning the Professional Footballers’ Association Player of the Year award.

Kante was also in the shortlist last year for playing a pivotal role in Leicester City’s first ever Premier League triumph but he failed to make it to the top three.

However, this time around the French midfielder is the bookmakers’ favourite for clinching the prestigious award, and Eden Hazard, who had won the accolade two years ago – is the second favourite.

Dele Alli has been left out of the PFA Player of the Year shortlist and this has left the Spurs fans in shock.

Man Utd superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Arsenal contract rebel Alexis Sanchez, Romelu Lukaku and Spurs hit-man Harry Kane are also in the race for the award.

Romelu Lukakau has displayed incredible form this season and so far he is the Premier League’s top scorer with 23 goals to his name. The Belgian striker is now in the fight with other fellow nominees for the Golden Boot.

Romelu LukakuManchester United star Zlatan has led the charge alone up front for the Red Devils and already has 17 goals to his name in his debut Premier League campaign.

Alexis Sanchez has netted 18 goals so far for Arsenal – in a season where nothing is falling in place for the Gunners amid speculations over Wenger’s future.

Harry Kane – the only English player in the shortlist – has 19 goals to his name so far despite staying out of action twice – due to lengthy injury breaks.  He was in the third place after the voting process concluded last year and this time around he has also been nominated for the Young Player of the Year award alongside Spurs team-mate Dele Alli.

Dele Alli, won the Young Player of the Year award last year and he has held on to his incredible form and has netted 16 goals this season to guide Pochettino’s Spurs to second in the league table – just 7 points behind current leaders Chelsea.

Lukaku, Burnley defender Michael Keane, Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford and Manchester City winger Leroy Sane are also in the race to clinch the Young Player of the Year award.

The English defender has proved his mettle after displaying incredible form for Burnley – which has also earned him a Three Lions call-up under Gareth Southagte.

Keane is now under the radar of top-notch Premier League clubs – including Everton and Liverpool and it is believed that the Burnley would demand an asking price in the region of £20million for the rising star.

Keane is now the 16th Man Utd Youth academy prodigy since 1995 to have earned an England call-up and he recently earned his international debut in the 1-0 defeat against Germany.

Pickford has been brilliant between the sticks for a struggling Black Cats side, and Man City new man Leroy Sane has shown sparks of brilliance during the latter stages of the season following his mega-money switch to City from Schalke.
