Romelu Lukaku Completes £75million Move To Manchester United After Signing Five-Year Contract
The Belgian star has penned a five-year contract with the Red Devils and has become the fourth most expensive signing.
Man Utd posted on Monday: “Our latest box office signing is Made for Manchester.”
Lukaku completed his medical in Los Angeles on Saturday as Man Utd completed the deal with Everton.
Chelsea had matched Man Utd’s £75m for Everton hit-man Lukaku.
The Chelsea bosses were ready to fight it till the end as they were desperate to bring back the player to Stamford Bridge this summer.
They believed that they could still beat Europa League winners Man Utd to Lukaku’s signature.
But the Belgian snubbed the Blues and admitted that it was Man Utd’s world record signing Pogba, who convinced him to make the switch.
Lukaku rejected a return to Chelsea, as he believes that Man Utd are all set to become the dominant force in England again.
And he has has started training with his United team-mates on their pre-season tour in the United States.
Jose Mourinho said in a statement: “Romelu is a natural fit for Manchester United.”
“He is a big personality and a big player. It is only natural that he wants to develop his career at the biggest club.”
“He will be a great addition to the group and I know they will make him very welcome. I am really looking forward to working with him again.”
The Belgian has become United’s second summer signing, after roping in defender Victor Lindelof from Benfica last month.
Lukaku posted on Twitter: “First of all I want to thank God for this opportunity. Delighted and blessed to be part of the greatest club in the world.”
He continued in a statement: “I would like to start by thanking Everton and the fans for the last four wonderful seasons, I have made some special friends and we have shared some amazing moments.”
“However, when Manchester United and Jose Mourinho come knocking at the door it is an opportunity of a lifetime and one that I could not turn down.”
“You could see the fight, determination and the spirit in this team during the Europa League final and I want to become a part of that.”
“I cannot wait to run out at Old Trafford in front of 75,000 fans but before that pre-season is where the hard work starts and I am looking forward to that first training session.”
Lukaku posted images of his medical before appearing for his first interview after the deal was sealed.
He claimed that he has joined the “biggest club in the world”
He said : “It’s a club that is hungry to win the league again, to be dominant in the world again.”
“It’s the sort of opportunity I’ve always wanted since a child.”
“When they came calling I didn’t have to think twice, so I’m really delighted be part of history.”
“Who would say no to the biggest club in the world? The best stadium in England, the best fans. I mean, it’s the perfect opportunity.”
“I always said I wanted to play for a team that’s challenging for every trophy that there is there. I think Manchester United at the minute wants to be the dominant team, the dominant force.”
“Now it’s time to work hard, work harder than I ever did before and I’m willing to do it.”
