Chelsea Complete £23m Signing Of Fiorentina Full Back Marcos Alonso

Published on:

Premier League giants Chelsea have officially announced the signing of Fiorentina defender Marcos Alonso on a five-year deal, for a transfer fee of £23m.

Both the clubs confirmed the deal on Wednesday with Fiorentina making the move first in an official statement.

The statement read: “ACF Fiorentina announces that it has sold, outright, to the rights of the player Marcos Alonso Mendoza at Chelsea Football Club.”

After completing the deal, Marcos Alonso said: “I’m very happy. It’s a step up in my career and I think this is the perfect place for me to continue developing. It’s time for me to win some titles.

“It was an easy decision for me to make when I heard the club were interested in signing me. My family and close friends know Chelsea is the club I have dreamed about playing for so I’m really excited about the challenge and I’m looking forward to working with my new team-mates.”

Alonso becomes Chelsea’s fourth summer signing after Michy Batshuayi, N’Golo Kante and Portugal goalkeeper Eduardo. Reports also claim that PSG defender David Luiz is set to complete a medical on Wednesday, ahead of his return to former club Chelsea.

Alsono was not a regular figure at Real Madrid and had only featured in a single La Liga match in the 2009-10 season, before moving out to Bolton. He got his first proper beak at the English side in the 2012-13 season, where he bagged 26 appearances and scored four goals.

Fiorentina signed Alonso in 2013, but sent him out on loan to Sunderland during the 2013-14 season. He came under the radar of top clubs after his successful last season at Fiorentina, earning 39 games in all competitions and with three goals to his name.
