Matic Due For Medical At Manchester United After Chelsea Agree £40M Deal

Manchester United have agreed in principle with Premier League champions Chelsea over the transfer of Nemanja Matic, with the Serbian midfielder set to complete a medical by Wednesday.

FootTheBall understands that both the clubs have reached an agreement for a transfer deal worth £40 million, which will now see the Serbian defensive midfielder reunite with former Blues boss Jose Mourinho.

Earlier in January 2014, Mourinho had landed Matic at Stamford Bridge during his second stint with the Blues.

The 28-year-old was in the Chelsea squad that clinched the Premier League title under Mourinho in 2015, and then he played a quintessential role in the Blues squad last season to help Antonio Conte lift the league title in his debut campaign in England.

United were keen on roping in a replacement for Michael Carrick in the last few years and now Mourinho has opted to bring in his former warrior to anchor the Red Devils midfield.

After undergoing a medical, Matic is believed to sign a new deal worth more than the £90,000-per-week that he currently takes home from Chelsea.

He will become Manchester United’s second signing this summer, following the arrival of central defender Victor Lindelof from Benfica for an initial transfer fee of £31m.

Matic made 40 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea last season.

Jose Mourinho previously worked with Matic at Stamford Bridge and thinks he is the perfect man to bolster his midfield.

The Red Devils have also been linked with Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata and Inter Milan midfielder Ivan Perisic.

It is the third player that Manchester United have agreed terms with after Fabinho and Morata, according to reports. Surely English media has no chill when it comes to Manchester United.
