Premier League club Chelsea have placed a £39m bid for roping in the services of Portugal and Sporting CP midfielder Joao Mario, according to foottheball sources,
Sources claim that Mario’s agent Kia Joorabchian has informed the Portuguese club about Chelsea’s offer along with an equal offer coming from the Serie A club Inter Milan, who are also ready to pay an extra £4m in bonuses.
Reports from the Portuguese media suggests that Sporting are more interested in the offer made by Chelsea as the Premier League side are willing to pay more cash up front .
It is believed that the Sporting midfielder is more in favour of a move to the Premier League but at present he is more focussed on training with Sporting to stay in shape for the new season.
However it is also believed that the midfielder would make a switch to the Premier League this summer, if the Portuguese club is willing to sell and comes to an agreement.
Mario has been under the radar of few other clubs which also includes another Premier League club Liverpool. Klopp is believed to be fond of the player’s technical ability in the midfield and sources claim that Liverpool are on the verge of launching a tempting bid which also includes Mario Balotelli as part of the swap deal. However, recent reports claim that Sporting has shown no interest in the former Inter Milan and Manchester City striker.
Joao Mario displayed good form last season with 7 goals and 12 assists to his name. The midfielder also played an important role in guiding Portugal to Euro 2016 title triumph.
New Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has been busy this summer and has already signed some fresh talents in to bolster the squad. The blues have already signed midfielder N’Golo from Leicester and striker Michy Batshuayi from Marseille. The club is still in the hunt for one more midfielder and a top-flight defender before the summer transfer window closes.
Conte has his eyes on Mario as he wants to add more depth and experience in the midfield but sources claim that the Blues are up for a strong fight against Liverpool, who are also keen on signing him this summer.
