Rome Is Burning? Francesco Totti Refutes Retirement Claims

New sporting director at Roma, Monchi has claimed that this will be Francesco Totti’s final season as a player.

The iconic skipper has spent his entire career as a player at Roma – with his 25-year long playing career set to come to an end this season.

A club legend and Italy great, Totti has immortalised himself in the clubs history, as he will take on director’s role at the Stadio Olimpico from 2017/18 season.

“In terms of Totti, I already knew that there was an agreement with the club that this would be his final year as a player, then he’d start as a director,” said the former Sevilla director, who was presented in his new role with Roma on Wednesday.Totti

“Francesco is Roma, I want to be as close to him as possible. I’d love to learn even one per cent of the huge amount that he knows.”

However, the star has not commented on the rumours just yet – with even Roma sending out mixed messages throughout the 2016/17 campaign.totti as roma

General manager Mauro Baldissoni had claimed before the crunch derby against Lazio that Francesco Totti had agreed to become a club director at the end of the season, but the 40-year-old has refuted any such claims.

“Somebody else might be saying that but not me,” he said.
