What does ‘GGMU’ mean?

Glory Glory Man United” was released by the Manchester United squad themselves before an FA Cup Final in 1983. Frank Renshaw who was a composer back then, wrote this song in the 1980s and was recorded at the Strawberry Studios in Stockport. Some of Renshaw’s friends and his son also took part in the recording making it the theme song of Manchester United’s fanbase.

It was in 2007 when a different style of song was written which fans offer refer to as the full version. The famous chant was recorded by The World Red Army in the process of making it the official song at Old Trafford.

‘GGMU’ history

Manchester United fans have been singing this song since the early 1980s. The chant has seen many changes between 1980 and 2007 and many of those have been sarcastic edits. This was in terms for United fans singing for themselves whenever they score a goal or win a match.

An official poster magazine was launched in 1994 for Glory Glory Man United and was published every four weeks. In 2007, stats said that the average age of the reader of this issue was 13 years.

Glory Glory Man United Lyrics

Glory glory Man united, Glory glory Man united, Glory glory Man united, As the reds go marching on on on!

Just like the busby babes in days gone by,

We’ll keep the red flags flying high, Your gonna see us all from far and wide, Your gonna hear the masses sing with pride.

United, Man united, We’re the boys in red and we’re on our way to Wembley!

Wembley, Wembley, We’re the famous Man united and we’re going to Wembley, Wembley, Wembley, We’re the famous Man united and we’re going to Wembley

In Seventy-Seven it was Docherty Atkinson will make it Eighty-Three And everyone will know just who we are, They’ll be singing que sera sera

The ‘Glory Glory Man United’ chant is now very well known, not only among United fans but football fans in general with many other anthems such as Liverpool’s You’ll Never Walk Alone.

Manchester United haven’t had glory for a while now, although it looks different under Erik ten hag now. With the EFL Cup already under his belt, the future looks bright for the Red Devils. However, just like You’ll Never Walk Alone, the sight of a full Old Trafford singing Glory Glory Man United at the top of their voice is a goosebumps-inducing experience.
